Still unsure?
Help is available.

Use GNB’s symptom checker to determine how serious your symptoms are and what options are available to you, or call 811 any time of the day for support from a nurse who can refer you to additional community services.

Tele-Care is a free, confidential, health advice and information line that provides access to bilingual registered nurses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

When to call 8-1-1

  • You can't reach your primary care provider and need care

  • You don't have a primary care provider and need care

  • You're unsure if you should go to the emergency department

  • You are looking for health services in your community

  • You need advice on managing a situation at home

What can I expect?

Your call will be answered by a registered nurse or a contact centre agent who will arrange a call back from a nurse for you.

You will be asked to describe your symptoms and answer some questions to assess the seriousness of the medical concern.

The nurse will then provide information, advice about self-care, or help you decide if you should make an appointment with a primary care provider, contact a community service, or go to the emergency department.
